Letting Go of What Doesn’t Fit…
Letting Go of What Doesn’t Fit: Decluttering for Growth
Hey Y’all,
As I sit here surrounded by piles of clothes, boxes, and the ever-growing chaos of decluttering and packing, I’ve found myself facing a surprising realization: I’ve been holding on to things that don’t fit not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually too.
Let me give you an example. As I went through my wardrobe, I came across clothes that I haven’t worn in years. Why? Because they don’t fit anymore. Yet, I’ve been keeping them, thinking, “When I lose weight, I’ll wear this again.” Sounds familiar? Here’s the thing, though: holding on to those items wasn’t motivating me; it was discouraging me.
A New Perspective on Holding On
Holding on to those clothes gave me a false sense of what I had. Instead of seeing what’s available to me now, I was stuck in the “someday” mindset. And honestly? It wasn’t helping. So, I decided that: I’m letting them go.
Don’t get it twisted ya girl is still committed to her health journey 😩🙌🏾❤️. But I’ve decided that when I reach my goals, I’ll celebrate by rewarding myself with new clothing that fits who I am and who I’ll become. Holding on to what doesn’t fit only creates clutter, both in my closet and in my mind.
As I packed up those clothes to donate, I realized something: this isn’t just about fabric and sizes. It’s about letting go of the things, expectations, past versions of myself, and even old dreams that no longer fit who I am becoming.
Blooming in the Here and Now
This moment of decluttering taught me a lesson about blooming right where I am. It reminded me that growth isn’t about holding on to the past or waiting for the perfect moment; it’s about embracing the process and celebrating the small steps along the way.
One scripture that resonates with me and I will hold on to during this season is:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
Letting go makes room for the new things GOD is doing in our lives. It allows us to step forward with open hands and hearts, ready to receive the blessings and opportunities HE has prepared for us.
The Beauty of the Process
Blooming is a process, and every step matters. Just like a flower doesn’t rush to bloom, we don’t need to rush our journey. We grow when we learn to trust the timing, embrace the pruning, and let go of what no longer serves us.
As I let go of those clothes, I gained a new perspective: I’m enough as I am right now. My worth isn’t tied to a size, a wardrobe, or even a specific goal. It’s tied to GOD’s love and purpose for my life.
Let’s Reflect: Journal Prompts
1. What are you holding on to physically, emotionally, or spiritually that no longer fits?
2. How can you create space for the new things GOD is doing in your life?
3. What areas of your life need pruning so you can bloom where you are?
4. Write about a time you let go of something and how it made space for growth.
5. What is one small step you can take today to bloom in the here and now?
A Prayer for Letting Go
LORD, thank You for the reminder that I don’t need to hold on to things that no longer fit. Help me to let go of the past and embrace the present with open hands and a willing heart. Show me the beauty in the process and give me the courage to trust You as I bloom in this season. Amen.
Letting Go and Moving Forward
Friend, if you’re like me and have been holding on to things that don’t fit whether it’s clothes, old habits, or past expectations I encourage you to let them go. Trust that as you release, GOD is making room for new things in your life.
As I close out this post, I’m reminded that blooming isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. So, here’s to letting go, making space, and embracing the beauty of the here and now.
